Quartz and quartzite are not going anywhere in 2024, with 81 percent of survey respondents predicting they will be the hottest bathroom vanity materials this year. But what’s the difference between these two stone types?

When used in countertops, quartz is considered an “engineered stone,” which means it’s man-made. By combining natural quartzite crystals found in the earth, dyes, and pigments, then using extreme heat and pressure to create a non-porous slab, engineers create this durable, low-maintenance material perfect for countertops.

Quartzite, on the other hand, is a natural stone that is mined from the earth in large blocks.
